Sherlock online

Check one username across 425+ sites with Sherlock's own site list. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.

Runs Sherlock by the Sherlock Project (MIT). 425 sites from sherlock-project/sherlock@4e2a4f6, synced 2026-10-14. Not affiliated with the project.

How Sherlock works here

Sherlock keeps a list of sites and, for each one, the rule that tells a real profile from a missing one: an HTTP status code, an error message on the page, or a redirect. We load that list from the Sherlock repository, apply the same rules, and run the checks from our servers.

Sites Sherlock itself skips for giving false positives are skipped here too. Adult sites are off, the same as Sherlock's default.

Results stream in as each batch of sites answers, so the first hits appear within seconds.

How to read the results

Found
The site answered the way it does for an existing profile. Open the link to confirm it is the person you mean.
Not found
The site answered the way it does for a missing profile.
Could not check
The site timed out, rate-limited us, or showed a bot check. This is not the same as not found.
Not valid here
The site does not allow this username format, so there was nothing to check.

What this free check cannot tell you

  • A match means a profile with that name exists, not that it belongs to your subject. Common handles match many people.
  • Some sites block data-centre traffic or change their pages, which shows up as Could not check or, rarely, a false match.
  • Sherlock only checks that a profile exists. It does not read names, bios, or linked accounts.

When the free check is not enough

Sherlock tells you where a handle exists. SearchIn's people-search and leak providers return the profile fields, linked emails, and breach records behind it.

What people use it for

  • Map where a handle appears before a deeper investigation
  • Check your own or your company's handles for impersonation
  • Pick the next pivot: a profile that links out to an email or a real name

FAQ

Sherlock, answered

Is this the real Sherlock?

It runs the Sherlock project's own site list and detection rules, refreshed from their GitHub repository, so the checks match the CLI. The engine that sends the requests is ours, built for the browser, so you do not need Python.

Why do I get different results from the Sherlock CLI?

Mostly because of where the requests come from. Sites treat a home connection and a data centre differently, and some show a bot check to one but not the other. Those show up here as Could not check rather than a guess.

Can I search more than one username?

One at a time here. For lists of usernames, run Sherlock locally or use SearchIn's bulk search, which takes many inputs in one run.

Sherlock or Maigret?

Sherlock is faster and simpler. Maigret covers far more sites and tags them by category. Run Sherlock first; if the handle is rare, run Maigret for coverage.

Do you store what I search?

No. The username, email, phone, or domain you enter is sent in the request body, never in a URL, and it is not logged. Results are cached for a few hours under a one-way hash of the input so a repeat search is fast, then they expire.

Why is this free?

Because the first pass should cost nothing. These checks use open-source tools and free public data. When a result needs commercial data, such as people-search modules or breach records, SearchIn runs those as paid lookups with a receipt.
